Maybe I should have stated six pack abs or flat abs are what many want. I would be happy with flat or even less flabby! There remains mixed reviews about spot training or exercising, which basically just means that some believe you can do target exercises just for your abs and see results while others believe that is a myth. I think everyone agrees that to lose fat in the mid-section (or anywhere really) one needs to start with taking a good, hard look at his or her diet.
Do you want flatter abs?
If you want flatter abs, first start by talking with your doctor about any exercise program you want to do and a healthy amount of calories you should be eating per day for a healthy, sensible way to lose weight. One fitness expert stated that he had to have a fat percentage between six and nine percent to have ripped, sculpted abs. He also went on to say that to obtain that low of a body fat percentage throughout an entire year was just not realistic for him since he enjoyed his cheat days (things like pizza and beer.) Still his goal was under ten percent body fat.
Eat less and move more
I am sure you have heard that two hundred times or more by now yet it does hold truth in just those five little words. If you just focus on exercising and not watching what you eat, you won’t see the results you long for. For example if you faithfully do cardiovascular exercises five days a week and swim every other day but eat Burger King whoppers and McDonalds fries every day, you are pretty much just wasting your time, although you might get a bit of benefit from your workouts. What you eat and drink combined with exercising is where things start to come together to see the results you are aiming for. I am sure you have seen some people order a huge meal at a restaurant or fast food chain and then order a Diet Coke. I think you see the point here.
Get a clear picture of how many calories you should eat per day
Have a discussion with your doctor or a nutritionist to determine how many calories you are to have to lose the amount of weight you want to. In general, we often hear that 2,000 calories is the norm for most men and women. That seems awfully high especially for those who want to lose weight as well as have sculpted abdominal muscles. You don’t want to consume too many nor too little either. Never go for a diet that states you must eat only 500 calories for one example. Again, the best way to decide the correct amount of daily calories for you is to ask your physician who knows you the best, provided you have a regular doctor. If not by all means try to locate a good reputable one soon and get a physical while you are there discussing your individualized weight loss goals.
